Our Projects
Downton Abbey World Film Premiere
About the Shoot
This was a very special request, an opportunity that doesn’t come every day. We were asked to photograph the Downton Abbey, world premiere in Leicester Square (in London’s famous West End).
We were to photograph the stars from the film, the writers, producers, sponsors and key guests as they arrived on the red carpet and then in front of the step and repeat logo board.
The images were to be delivered to the client (NBC, Universal & Viking Cruises) whilst the guests were watching the film itself, so our images could hit the world’s press before the film ended – so an incredibly fast turnaround.
We did it, it was a great team effort. Stressful, but a wonderful evening and an amazing experience.
Story of the Shoot
As the brief described, this was our moment to breeze up and down the red carpet, the only photographer allowed on the carpet and not set aside in a box behind the fence – what a privilege.
Once the guests had arrived, we had to capture their portrait in front of the logo wall, known as a step and repeat wall.
This was great, we photographed all the big names from the writer Julian Fellowes to the main cast members such as Hugh Bonneville (Robert Crawley), Maggie Smith (Violet Crwaley), Michelle Dockery (Lady Mary), Elizabeth McGovern (Cora Crawley), Laura Carmichael (Lady Edith), Jim Carter (Mr Carson), Phyllis Logan (Mrs Hughes), Lesley Nicol (Mrs Patmore) and Allen Leech (Tom Branson) among many others.
As soon as the film started, our shooting was complete and we went into rapid image culling, editing and delivery to the client over the weakest of wifi – which was fraught with worry – but all was good. NBC, Universal and the film sponsor Viking Cruises were overjoyed with the images and sent a huge selection of 20 images off to the world’s press immediately and the rest later that night
